CAN-SPAM ACT ADDS REGULATIONS FOR CHAPTERS
Passage of the federal CAN-SPAM Act in 2003 has resulted in regulatory restrictions which will make it more difficult for NASW and its Chapters to communicate with its members quickly. Originally passed in response to “non-solicited pornographic and marketing materials,” the regulations developed to implement the law create cumbersome and punitive rules for groups such as NASW, which act to alert members of pending legislation and other activities which concern social workers. To protect itself from punitive fines, national NASW is acting to restrict actions by its chapters which may put the organization at risk of federal action.
However, because Iowa Chapter sends legislative alerts, conference and job notices and other information of interest to social workers only to members who have requested to receive them, we can continue to maintain and communicate through our chapter listserv, so long as we respond promptly to any request to be removed from the listserv.
Our listserv has been developed over the past few years, and we did not anticipate having to document your requests to be added to the listserv, so we have not maintained a hard copy of such requests. Now, anticipating that it may at some point become necessary to document a request, we are asking Iowa NASW members who wish to remain on our listserv to complete the form below and to return it to the Chapter office asap.
To submit the form by U.S. Mail or facsimile, please click here for a printable version of the form.
To submit the form by email, please complete the form below and click on the submit button to send it to us.
Notice: If you change your email address,
please be sure to notify us promptly. When mail bounces back to us several
times, we assume it is no longer valid and remove it.
