Iowa NASW is a chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest professional association of social workers, with over 150,000 members worldwide. NASW has led the way in setting standards for professional practice since the establishment of the Code of Ethics in 1955. NASW works with members and for members to create opportunities within the profession and with those we serve. Iowa Chapter members have opportunities for continuing education events, involvement in advocacy and social justice, and access to network with social workers across the state.

COMBINED CHILD ABUSE & DEPENDENT ADULT ABUSE MANDATORY REPORTER TRAINING
Check your records! Is it time to renew your mandatory reporter training? If you are working with children or dependent adults, you must remain current with training requirements, and complete mandatory reporter training every five years.
The NASW, Iowa Chapter is pleased to announce a combined child abuse & dependent adult abuse mandatory reporter training on Monday, June 23, 2008 from 8:45 AM – 12:00 PM, in the Greenwood Room at Plymouth Congregational Church, located at 4126 Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines. Gladys Alvarez, MSW, LISW, an approved provider for child abuse and adult abuse training, will conduct this workshop. NASW has determined that this program meets the criteria of the Iowa Board of Social Worker Examiners for 3.00 hours of continuing education for social workers, including mandatory reporter training for combined child abuse and dependent adult abuse.

NASW, IOWA CHAPTER- 2008 BOARD OF DIRECTORS BALLOT INFORMATION
The 2008 Ballot for the NASW, Iowa Chapter Board of Directors will be mailed to members during the first week of May. Please take a few minutes to review the information on the candidates and complete your ballot. All NASW members are eligible to vote. If you are a member and do not receive your ballot by May 15th please contact the NASW, Iowa Chapter office at 515 277-1117. All ballots must be postmarked by May 28th.

CENTRAL IOWA BRANCH WORKSHOP
The Central Branch of the NASW, Iowa Chapter, is presenting a workshop titled "Crime Victim Compensation, Sexual Abuse Examination and Iowa VINE " on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This workshop will be located at Youth & Shelter Services, Inc, 420 Kellogg, in Ames, Iowa. Marti Anderson, MSW, LISW, who is currently the director of the Iowa Department of Justice Crime Victim Assistance Division will provide an understanding of the immediate needs of a crime victim client. Information will also be presented on how to access resources available for clients who are crime victims. This workshop is approved for 1.0 hours of continuing social work education. The Southwest Branch of the NASW, Iowa Chapter, is presenting a workshop titled Working with Latinos: Challenges, Strategies, and Honoring their Stories " on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM. This workshop will be located at the Heartland Family Services, 515 E. Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Beatriz Garcia Gonzalez, MSW, LISW, LCSW, LMHP will be discussing National, State, and community issues affecting the Latino population. Traditional Latino cultural concepts will be reviewed and appropriate interventions and practices will be discussed. This workshop has been approved for 1.0 hours of continuing social work education.
